November Girl.

This gal is one of a kind and a jack of all trades. We met at my brief stint at American Apparel on Broadway!! not only is she pretty she is witty!

May I introduce!

Name: Amanda Valentine

Interests .... for pay: designing clothing and jewelry, wardrobe styling and waiting tables!
for free: running, thrifting, playing bass, and collecting skulls and black swans.

How Long Have You Lived in Nashville? almost 3 and a half years!

Favorite Nashville Spot? When on I-24 west, about to exit Shelby to get into East Nashville, I look to the left, I see a junk yard in front of the Nashville skyline. It's gorgeous. It's smashed cars against our weird buildings.

Favorite Nashvillian living or dead?

Gemma Taccogna

Gemma Taccongna was a Papier Mache artist beginning in the 1960s. She began her career in Mexico revolutionizing the papier mache technique! She was the first to start the papier mache dolly head that is now extremely hard to find, and collected by Nina Ricci, Queen Elizabeth and so many more notables.
I was ecstatic to find a 1966 McCalls Needlework & Crafts magazine at the Goodwill Outlet yesterday! I was even more ecstatic to see that there is a tutorial on how to make papier-mâché dolly heads instructed by Gemma herself!! Another collector of her work is Anna Sui. Anna Sui began making her dolls in the late 60s, I wonder if she learned her formula from this very magazine?? I cannot wait to begin making a collection of them just like hers!!! I drool every time I walk into her NYC store, every square inch is full of the most amazing dolly heads!!! I want them all!!

New York Couture

I love reading the dailies, one of the greatest perks of working at UAL is we have a subscription to WWD, thank goodness, because it is a hefty $109 per year to subscribe. I discovered the brand New York Couture while perusing the pages one day. I love their daring costume inspired style!! While most of their gear is a bit over the top, they do have some incredible Gaga Esque pieces that could transform you from bland to bangin!!

Fashion After Dark.

If you live in Nashville, I am sure you have heard about Fashion After Dark. Lemme break it down for you. Fashion After Dark was created by Elizabeth Scokin and Lexus of Nashville. It is a fashion show + benefit for the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. If you haven't received and invitation or you are broke, you aren't getting in to this event. Tickets for a front row seat are $350...standing room is $75...Yikes. I Never thought I would use this term but here goes;I am a recessionista and I simply cannot justify paying that much for a fashion show ticket at this point in my stature. However, if you are lucky enough to be able to pay said price or just so happen to work for a company that is willing to pay for your ticket this is a must attend!!

For the rest of us "recessionistas" we are in luck because Shopping Night Out, is going on all of next week. Participating boutiques in Nashville will be hosting events and promotions to better suit our budgets. check http://www.minniepearl.org/fashion_after_dark/
